IM Panel

The IM panel emulates Instant Messenger software like YIM, MSN, AIM, etc. However, the available pool of friends to chat with are only those visiting our website.

This means that Visitors might be using GI's IM -- however, you always have the ability to determine who you allow to contact you and who you don't.

In order to leave open the door to allowing Visitors to use the IM Panel, we have kept the database separate from the main database of GI Residents. This means that you must create a GI-IM account before using it, even if you already have a main GI account.

We recommend that you use your GI nickname as your IM username, so your GI friends can recognize you. But you are free to use another username.

Creating your GI-IM account is simple and quick. Just enter the username, password, and email address (to which would be sent help if you forget your password, and that's the only use it would get), and you'll be logged onto the GI Instant Messenging system.

As you'll see, you have lots of options for communicating (and NOT communicating) with others, as you wish. Like with other IM software, you simply place people on your FRIENDS list if you want them to see when you are on the Island, so you can chat with each other.
